PVC flooring in the Midlands solves a problem resin genuinely can’t: it goes down fast, it comes back up cleanly, and it doesn’t care nearly as much about the state of the slab underneath. That last point matters more than most contractors will admit. Resin needs a dry, ground, structurally sound substrate, and plenty of Midlands units simply don’t have one. Damp readings come back high, the lease has three years left, or production can’t spare a week of curing time. In those situations, pouring epoxy is the wrong recommendation no matter how good the finish would look. PVC lays over a prepared floor in days, takes traffic almost immediately, and can be lifted section by section later without destroying the concrete beneath it.

There are five situations where we’d recommend PVC without hesitation.
However, PVC isn’t for everything. Sustained point loads from racking legs will indent it, and aggressive solvents attack the material directly. So for chemical stores or heavy static loading, we’d steer you toward chemical resistant flooring or a proper epoxy flooring build instead.
The format you choose affects cost, install time and how the floor performs long term.
Colour and zoning come free with PVC. Because tiles arrive in multiple colours, you can mark walkways, bays and hazard zones into the floor itself rather than painting them on afterwards.
Good PVC installation is quiet, quick and unglamorous. It’s also easy to get wrong.
Ron visits, takes moisture readings, checks flatness and looks at how the space is actually used. He’ll ask about vehicle types, wash regimes, lease length and any hygiene standards you’re audited against.

PVC forgives more than resin, but it doesn’t forgive everything. Undulation telegraphs through thin sheet, and debris under a tile becomes a permanent lump.
We sweep, degrease and mechanically clean the slab. Where the surface is rough or contaminated, light floor grinding evens it out. Heavily soiled floors usually need pressure washing beforehand, and old failed coatings come off through our floor coating removal service.
Potholes, spalled patches and open joints get filled before anything is laid. Sheet vinyl in particular needs a smooth base, so we often apply a levelling compound across worn areas. Our concrete floor repairs team handles the heavier reinstatement work where the slab has broken up.
PVC expands and contracts with temperature. So we bring the material into the building 24 to 48 hours before installation and let it settle at working temperature. Skip this and you’ll see gapping at the joints within a fortnight, particularly in unheated warehouses.
Interlocking tiles are set out from a datum line and worked outward, with perimeter ramps trimmed to suit door thresholds and existing levels.
Sheet vinyl is bonded with the correct adhesive for the substrate, rolled to remove air, then left to set before seaming. Coving is formed at wall junctions where hygiene requires it.
For hygiene-critical areas, we hot-weld every seam with a matching welding rod, then trim it flush. That gives you a continuous, cleanable surface with no gap for bacteria or liquid.
Expansion gaps at the perimeter are left deliberately and covered with trim, because a floor with nowhere to move will buckle.
PVC takes foot traffic immediately and vehicle traffic within hours. There’s no curing window to plan around, which is precisely why so many sites choose it.

No curing, no ventilation planning, no resin odour. Most workshop-sized areas are finished and back in use within two or three days.
PVC has genuine give in it. For sites where staff stand at benches all shift, that difference is real and it shows up in fatigue levels.
Hard resin amplifies sound. PVC absorbs it, which makes a meaningful difference in workshops, packing halls and open production spaces.
A damaged tile lifts out and a replacement drops in. Compare that to patching resin, where the repair is always visible and the colour never quite matches.
Concrete pulls heat out of a building relentlessly. PVC insulates modestly but noticeably, which matters in unheated Midlands units through winter.
Aggregate suspended within safety vinyl doesn’t wear away with cleaning, unlike a broadcast surface that gradually polishes smooth under traffic.
Sealed, welded PVC mops and scrubs easily. Where washdown is heavy, we combine it with our wash room systems detailing for a fully sealed envelope.

PVC often sits alongside other work on the same site. Rough or contaminated slabs usually need floor preparation or diamond grinding before laying. Areas with heavier traffic than PVC can take are better served by epoxy flooring, while dusty adjacent stores benefit from simple dust proofing. Walkways and hazard zones can be reinforced with safety line marking where tile colour alone isn’t enough, and hygiene-critical walls are finished with hygienic wall cladding.
