Epoxy flooring in the Midlands is sold on the finish and lost on the substrate. Every failed floor we’re called to inspect looks identical from the doorway: a mirror-flat surface with edges lifting like wallpaper, or blisters that pop under a heel and reveal bare grey concrete underneath. The resin didn’t fail. The bond did. Epoxy has no forgiveness built into it — put it onto a slab that’s damp, dusty or unopened, and it will release, no matter how expensive the tin was or how carefully it was rolled. That’s the whole story behind nearly every premature failure in this country.
So we work backwards from the slab. Ron surveys every floor himself, takes hygrometer readings before he quotes, and tells you plainly whether you need a 300-micron coating or a 4mm self-levelling screed. Frequently it’s the cheaper of the two, and we’ll say so. Our crew then grinds, primes and lays it in sequence, working nights or weekends so your lines keep running. Epoxy earns its place for specific reasons, and it’s worth knowing which ones apply to you.
However, epoxy isn’t right for everything. It yellows under direct UV, and it doesn’t love sustained heat above roughly 60°C. So for external decks or steam-cleaned production areas, we’d steer you elsewhere. Honest advice saves you money twice over.
There’s no single “epoxy floor”. There’s a family of systems, and the right one depends on your loadings, your chemistry and your slab condition.
Colour choice matters more than people expect. Mid-greys hide tyre marks, light tones lift a dark shed noticeably, and safety colours let you zone the floor without extra markings.
The sequence stays disciplined regardless of scale.
Ron walks the floor with you. He tests slab hardness, moisture content, contamination depth and crack patterns, then asks about shifts, chemicals, cleaning frequency and vehicle types.
You get a written, itemised quote afterwards. Preparation, repairs, primer, body coats, topcoat and markings are all priced separately, so nothing is hidden inside a lump sum.
This step decides whether the floor survives. Acid etching doesn’t create a proper key, and we don’t use it.
Diamond floor grinding removes laitance and opens the concrete to a CSP 2–3 profile. Where old coatings, sealers or heavy contamination are present, dust free shot blasting covers large areas faster and more evenly. Everything runs through H-class vacuum extraction, so adjacent production stays clean.

A ground slab shows every defect honestly, so we fix them before pouring anything.
Potholes, spalled patches and blown joint arrises get rebuilt in epoxy mortar. Live cracks are stitched. Movement joints are cut back and refilled with the correct sealant grade, then carried through the new surface rather than covered over. A low-viscosity epoxy primer penetrates the open surface and seals it. On damp slabs we switch to a moisture-tolerant primer instead. Priming also prevents pinholing, which causes that speckled, blown appearance on rushed installations.
Primer typically needs 6–12 hours before overcoating, though cold slabs take longer.
Coatings go on in two body coats, rolled or squeegeed to gauge. Self-levelling systems are poured, spread and spike-rolled to release trapped air, which is what gives you that flat, seamless finish.
Anti-slip aggregate is broadcast into the wet resin and sealed afterwards. Bay colours, aisle edges and pedestrian walkways are set out at this stage using safety line marking that bonds into the same system.
Expect touch-dry at 8–12 hours and light foot traffic around 24 hours. Full mechanical and chemical service arrives at 5–7 days at 15–20°C. Cold environments extend that, and we build it into the programme honestly.

Racking aisles wear far faster than open floor, so we build those lanes heavier and define routes with traffic line marking. Tired slabs usually need a self-levelling screed rather than a coating.
Point loads, dropped tooling, coolant and swarf. High-build epoxy with a chemically resistant topcoat handles daily degreasing without softening.
Cold and ambient areas suit epoxy well. Where hot washdown or steam is involved, we’ll recommend a polyurethane screed instead — a straight answer that occasionally costs us the sale.
Seamless, cleanable and static-controlled surfaces are essential here. Our clean room systems meet the requirement without over-engineering the specification.
Oil, jacking loads and hot tyres. Smaller premises are well served by our garage floor painting systems, while commercial workshops move up to industrial floor painting build-ups.
Heavy footfall, tight installation windows and appearance all matter. Epoxy delivers on all three when the programme is planned properly.
Containment areas need coved upstands and full chemical resistance. We detail these carefully, because leaks get expensive fast.

Epoxy rarely arrives alone. Ingrained grease and production residue often call for pressure washing first. Where the slab is sound and you simply want a hard, polished finish, concrete floor polishing can be a smarter spend than resin.
