Wash room systems in the Midlands fail below the surface long before anything shows above it. That’s the whole difficulty with wet areas. Water doesn’t need a hole — it finds the gap between a tile and its grout line, the split in a silicone bead at the floor junction, the unsealed edge around a gully. Then it sits in the screed underneath, works sideways through the substrate and starts growing something. By the time a tile sounds hollow or a stain appears on the ceiling below, the water has been there for a year and the repair means taking the whole floor up.
So we tank the room rather than surface it. The waterproofing goes underneath, coving is formed in the same material as the floor, and the finish runs continuously from drain to skirting with no joints for water to exploit. Specification depends on temperature, chemistry and how heavily the room is used.
The sequence protects the structure, and every stage depends on the one before it.
Ron checks existing falls with a level, identifies where water currently sits and inspects drainage capacity. He’ll also look for signs of previous leakage — staining, hollow tiles, damp at skirting level.
Where falls are inadequate, correcting them becomes part of the scope. There’s no point installing a good system onto a floor that ponds.
You get a written, itemised quote covering strip-out, falls, tanking, flooring, coving, wall systems and drainage as separate lines.
Existing tiles, vinyl or failed resin come out. Old adhesive and screed are removed through our floor coating removal service.
The substrate is then prepared mechanically via floor grinding or dust free shot blasting, with everything running through H-class extraction.
Damaged concrete is cut back and rebuilt through concrete floor repairs.
Where falls need forming or correcting, a screed is laid to establish an even gradient to the drainage points — typically around 1:80 for a wet room floor.
This work is invisible in the finished room and it determines whether the room functions. Getting it right is the difference between water leaving and water lingering.
Liquid membrane is applied across the floor, dressed up the walls to above splash height and taken into every drain body.
Corners, upstands and penetrations are reinforced with tape or matting. Pipe entries are sealed individually.
The membrane is left to cure fully and checked before anything goes over it. This layer is the actual waterproofing, so it isn’t rushed.
Coving is formed in resin mortar at every wall junction to the agreed radius and height, before the main floor is laid.
Drain surrounds are detailed so the finish dresses into the gully rather than stopping short of it. Thresholds get an upstand or a trim so water can’t track out of the room.
Polyurethane screeds are trowel-applied to gauge. Epoxy systems are poured, spread and spike-rolled to release trapped air.
Anti-slip aggregate is broadcast into the wet resin at the grade agreed for each zone, then locked in with a sealer coat.
The finish runs continuously into the coving, so there’s no joint at the junction at all.
Cladding is bonded on a full bed and lapped over the coving. Joints are welded or trimmed, and every penetration is cut tight and sealed with antimicrobial silicone.
Where showers, sanitary fittings and brackets are being reinstated, sealing is done as each item goes back rather than afterwards.
Foot traffic returns at around 24 hours. Full water and chemical service comes at 5–7 days at 15–20°C, and cold rooms take longer.

Hot water, organic acids and constant moisture. Polyurethane screeds with full coving, installed alongside our hygiene floor coating work.

Grease, steam and heavy traffic in a small area. These floors take more punishment per square metre than almost anywhere else.
Slurry, effluent and pressure washing daily. Chemical resistance matters as much as waterproofing here.
Detergents, water and constant traffic. Often combined with oil resistant flooring in the adjoining workshop areas.

Wet rooms rarely stand alone. Walls are finished through hygienic wall cladding, while adjoining production areas take hygiene floor coating or chemical resistant flooring. Controlled environments alongside wet areas run through our clean room systems. Preparation and cleaning are handled by floor preparation and pressure washing, while perished joints in adjacent floors need mastic floor joint repairs.
