Epoxy floor removal service in the Midlands sounds like demolition and behaves like surgery. The temptation is to attack it — bigger machine, heavier tooling, get it off and move on. That approach costs people slabs. Cured epoxy is often bonded harder than the concrete beneath it, so aggressive removal doesn’t strip the resin cleanly; it tears the top layer of concrete off with it, leaving a cratered, uneven substrate that then needs a screed to make it usable again. What should have been a removal job turns into a rebuild, and the extra cost lands on you rather than the contractor who caused it.
The other failure runs the opposite way. Somebody removes the visible coating, sees grey concrete, and calls it done. Except a thin skim of resin remains in the surface pores, invisible unless you know what you’re looking at, and the new floor bonds to that residue rather than to the slab. It lifts within a year. Ron surveys the existing system first — thickness, adhesion, what’s underneath — and chooses a method that gets it all off without wrecking what’s below. Sites across Westmeath, Offaly and Dublin have had failed floors stripped and rebuilt by our crew, and several stayed with us afterwards, as our customer testimonials show.

Understanding why the last floor failed matters, because it usually determines what should replace it.
We identify which one applies during the survey, because removing a floor without fixing the underlying cause is expensive theatre.
Method selection depends on thickness, hardness and what’s coming next.
The sequence protects your slab and your programme.
Ron assesses the existing floor — thickness, resin type, how well it’s still bonded and what condition the concrete beneath is in. Core samples or test patches are taken where the build-up is unclear.
He’ll also establish what’s going down afterwards, since the required profile differs between a thin coating and a 4mm screed.
You get a written, itemised quote covering removal, waste disposal, repairs and profiling as separate lines.
On anything unusual, we strip a test panel first. This shows how the coating behaves, how the concrete underneath responds and how fast the work will actually go.
That hour of testing prevents both of the expensive mistakes described earlier.
Removal is noisy and generates debris, so the zone is screened and extraction is set up before machines start. Adjacent production, offices and stock stay protected.
We agree phasing in advance and work overnight or by section where the building can’t stop.
The primary method runs across the main area in overlapping passes. Progress is checked constantly, because concrete varies across a floor and tooling that worked in one bay may glaze in the next.
Where the coating comes away in sheets, work moves quickly. Where it’s well bonded, it comes off millimetre by millimetre, and the honest position is that this is where removal jobs get expensive.
Perimeters, coved upstands and areas around plant are stripped by hand-held grinders. Coving in particular is slow work and it’s often underestimated in cheaper quotes.
Leaving resin at the wall line guarantees a visible fault line in the new floor.
Once the bulk is off, we grind the surface to remove resin remaining in the pores and open the concrete to the profile the new system needs — usually CSP 2–3 for coatings.
This is the step contractors skip. A floor that looks grey isn’t necessarily clean, and residual resin in the surface will undermine whatever goes down next.
Removal exposes everything the old floor was hiding. Cracks, hollow patches and damaged joints all become visible.
Cracks are addressed through floor stitching, broken areas through concrete floor repairs, and perished joints through mastic floor joint repairs.
We also retest for moisture at this point, since damp is often the reason the last floor failed.
Removed material is collected, contained and disposed of correctly. Resin waste has specific handling requirements, and we deal with them rather than leaving skips of debris behind.
The floor is vacuumed and inspected before handover or before the new system starts. See our before and after gallery for stripped and rebuilt floors.
Large areas of failed coating, usually stripped by shot blasting and rebuilt with a heavier industrial flooring system that suits the traffic properly.
Chemically degraded floors and coatings that were under-specified for the process. Replacement usually moves to chemical resistant flooring.
Failed hygienic systems with cracked coving and blown joints. Removal and rebuild through hygiene floor coating resolves audit findings permanently.
Coatings lifting from oil-contaminated slabs. Removal has to go deeper here, since the contamination sits in the concrete itself. Rebuild follows with oil resistant flooring.
Change-of-use projects requiring conductive or static-dissipative replacement. Rebuild runs through anti-static flooring or clean room systems.
Stripping between tenancies, often to tight programmes with fixed handover dates. Night and weekend working is standard.
Failed deck systems removed ahead of rewaterproofing through car park flooring.
We deliver epoxy floor removal in the Midlands across Athlone, Mullingar, Tullamore, Portlaoise, Longford Town, Birr and Roscommon Town, with full Dublin and nationwide coverage from our Dublin 3 base.
Removal is the start of a rebuild. Thin coatings and paint are often better handled through our broader floor coating removal service, while final profiling runs through floor grinding and full floor preparation. Heavily soiled floors need pressure washing before stripping begins. Once bare, the slab can take a new industrial floor painting finish, or simply be sealed with concrete sealing if a resin floor was never the right answer. Not sure whether your floor needs stripping or repairing? Book a floor inspection and repair visit first.
A failed epoxy floor is worse than no floor at all. Loose sheets lift under wheels, edges break away, and the debonded areas spread outward every week as traffic works them loose. Meanwhile nothing can be laid on top, because a new system bonded to a failing one inherits the failure. The floor is doing nothing for you and quietly costing you — and the longer the damaged areas stay in service, the more concrete gets damaged underneath them.
Epoxy floor removal in the Midlands, delivered by Ron and the crew, is controlled, extracted and taken back to a substrate that will actually hold what comes next. The survey is free. The quote is written and itemised. We phase the work so your building keeps operating.
